US Surfing competition - Redmond Competes

ONE OF THE TOP ADAPTIVE SURFING EVENTS IN THE WORLD.

In 2017, the Stoke for Life Foundation held the very first U.S. Open adaptive surfing championship in O’side, driven to bring awareness to the rehabilitative benefits of adaptive water sports and the importance of beach access for people with disabilities. Over the course of the weekend, what the beachgoing crowd quickly learned was that elite world-class adaptive surfing is equal parts inspiring and exhilarating—and totally aggro. Now, each year the best of the best paddle out on the north side of the O’side Pier to claim a piece of the $30,000 prize purse.

Marine to speak at HPU's Veterans Day Celebration

Among the featured speakers will be Afghanistan War veteran Redmond Ramos, a Navy corpsman who was attached to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. During his deployment, Ramos stepped on an improvised explosive device while providing cover and support for an injured team member, and as a result his leg had to be amputated.

This year, Afghanistan war veteran Redmond Ramos will speak at HPU’s Annual Veterans Day celebration. After losing his leg, he has continually found opportunities to thrive. He joined TMF’s veteran transition program after leaving the military and is currently pursuing his dream of becoming a motivational speaker.

Sertoma Speech

Sertoma is excited to welcome Redmond Ramos to the 2022 Sertoma National Conference as our Keynote Speaker!

Redmond has been involved in public speaking since 2008. While in the military, he was always striving to teach his junior Corpsmen (field medics) and Marines combat trauma management. Redmond was in charge of training the Japanese Self Defense Force (JSDF) in combat medicine during Exercise Forest Light 2010 in Sekiyama, Japan.

The day Redmond left the military, he began teaching tactical combat medicine as a civilian contractor for the military. He then found happiness in speaking for the Elizabeth Hospice Center. Being able to thank WWII veterans and their families for their service was an experience like no other. A year later, he was speaking for the hospice center by day and teaching tactical medicine by night.

Redmond Gets married LIVE on TV

The premiere episode on Lifetime brought My Great Big Live Wedding to Southern California, where Redmond Ramos, a former Navy Corpsman combat medic who lost his leg after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan, married his firefighting partner Krista Cona.
